Ontario Society of Artists 148th open juried show, May 10 - 30 online exhibition

I bravely (or so it felt at the time) entered this open juried show with the Ontario Society of Artists. I was thrilled to find out that out of almost 450 artists, my work would be included as one of the 51!! Click HERE for the online exhibition. "Cocktail Hour For One"

Can't get much more fun than this painting! I was on an art group zoom call where everyone works on their own project while visiting. I decided to use an older painting I painted over with white gesso and make it into a mixed media piece. Actually I did this with 5 paintings. Then I chose 5 colours I don't usually use, (especially not together) and laid the colours beside and on top of each other instead of mixing on a palette.

I let it dry and turned it around and around and this lady with a great hair wrap kept getting my attention. She reminded me of a Marg Simpson all dolled up so with a celebratory drink she came to life. The first photo below is the collage I was having fun with. The second photo is of the colours layering and the 3rd photo is a black and white to look at the values before I continued on. The fourth photo was still lacking so I added more shadows and a patterned background. The head scarf decoration and earrings appeared in the underpainting and made me laugh, yes. I had a character on my hands and coming to life in front of me, what fun! Cheers!
